Rahul Gandhi did not appear in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate of Ahmedabad on Monday, in the defamation case filed by Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank and its Chairman Ajay Patel.
Rahul’s advocates sought adjournment on two grounds. One the petition filed by the co-op bank and its chairman was in Gujarati and this needed to be translated into English before Rahul could answer it.
Secondly, Rahul sought permission of non-appearance as he said he is busy with Jawahar Lal’s death anniversary which fell on the day of hearing. The matter has been posted for July 27.
It bears recall that Patel and the Bank filed two criminal defamation cases against the Congress leaders arguing that due to their defamatory statement in the wake of demonetization, the bank’s business may suffer as depositors may get doubts in their minds.
