India aims to increase its agricultural exports from $45 billion to $115 billion, with a significant contribution expected from the cooperative sector by 2027, claimed IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi in an interview to the Hindi daily Amar Ujala.
Awasthi stated that IFFCO is playing a crucial role in agricultural exports and seed production today. He emphasized the steps taken to enhance India’s share in the global agricultural market through the establishment of National Cooperative Export Ltd. (NCE), Indian Seed Cooperative Ltd. (ISCL), and National Cooperative Organics Ltd. (NCOL).
Awasthi suggested utilizing nano urea and nano fertilizers domestically, reducing the need for imports and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Addressing concerns over the effectiveness of nano urea, Awasthi welcomed constructive criticism, stating that nearly 98% of users find it beneficial. Research is ongoing to optimize its effectiveness further.
IFFCO is also focusing on promoting organic farming by researching methods to reduce chemical usage in soil. The government has formed three companies to provide seeds to farmers, streamline product distribution, and boost exports, underlined the MD.
Awasthi highlighted the Namo Drone Didi scheme, empowering women in agriculture. He revealed that around 300 drone didis have been trained nationwide, earning between Rs 1000-2000 daily, thus contributing to rural women’s empowerment through technology adoption.
