In a significant leadership appointment, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has named Deepak Agarwal, a 2000-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, as the new Managing Director of the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED).
Agarwal will hold the position for a fixed term of five years, according to an official order issued by the ACC on Friday. Agarwal’s appointment comes after a period of temporary arrangements, with an official from the Ministry of Cooperation handling additional MD responsibilities at NAFED.
With his extensive experience in public administration, Agarwal is expected to drive NAFED’s mission of supporting India’s agricultural sector through efficient marketing and procurement operations.
His leadership is anticipated to further strengthen NAFED’s initiatives aimed at ensuring fair prices for farmers and promoting cooperative-based agricultural marketing across the country.
This interim setup was established shortly after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed the assignment of the role to an Agriculture Ministry official, as the search for a permanent candidate was ongoing.
