As of June 30, 2024, 8,875 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) have been registered under the Central Sector Scheme (CSS) for the “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs,” initiated by the Government of India, said Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
The scheme aims to boost agricultural productivity and income through collective efforts. A total paid-up capital of Rs. 630.3 crore has been accumulated, with Rs. 210.1 crore released as matching equity grants, he added.
The scheme encourages a “One District One Product” approach, focusing on product specialization and value addition, including processing, branding, and marketing, he said.
Additionally, loans worth Rs. 50.4 crore have been provided under a credit guarantee fund. Currently, 19,68,868 shareholder farmers and 6,374 CEOs are associated with the registered FPOs, he concluded.
