There are very few Urban Cooperative Banks Federations at the state level that maintain authentic data about the financial position of their respective states’ UCBs but the Telangana Urban Cooperative Banks Federation may be an exception.
In an exclusive interview, CEO of State Federation, Krishna Murthy revealed that, though there are only 48 Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) in Telangana, they contribute significantly to the state’s economy. As per the provisional data, their total business is more than Rs 15,000 crore, with a Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio of 64.08 percent.
As of June 30, 2024, the deposits and loans & advances of the UCBs in Telangana stood at Rs 9,488 crore and Rs 6,080 crore respectively. These banks operate through a total network of 266 branches across the state.
Notably, 16 of the urban cooperative banks in Telangana are unit banks, each having only a single branch.
Talking to this correspondent in Hyderabad, Telangana UCBs Federation CEO Krishna Murthy stated, “We are very actively collecting the data of the UCBs to ensure a comprehensive understanding of their financial health and operational status”, he said.
“By consolidating this data, we aim to identify areas where these banks are performing well and where they need support. The Telangana Urban Cooperative Banks Federation has been working closely with member banks to streamline data collection processes”, he underlined.
Murthy further added, “Our goal is not just to gather data but to analyze it in a way that supports the sustainable growth of UCBs and ensures they continue to serve their communities effectively. There are only a few UCBs that are under the Supervisory Action Framework (SAF)”, he informed.
He also appreciated the Federation Chairman Vemireddy Narasimha Reddy, Working President Madana Gopala Swamy, Vice-Chairman Pramod Kedia, and other board members for their unwavering support.
The two leading urban cooperative banks in Telangana—Gayatri Cooperative Urban Bank and AP Mahesh Cooperative Urban Bank—reported a business mix of Rs 5,607 crore as of June 30, 2024, with a branch network of 90.
The other UCBs in the top 10 collectively reported a business mix of Rs 6,131 crore as of the same date, with a network of 81 branches across Telangana.
