Safety First: UP State Co-op Bank installs Disinfection Tunnel

Considered a laggard in the co-op matters, the state of Uttar Pradesh has however, surprised many by installing a Disinfection Tunnel at its premises before many other institutions could do so. And the man leading from the front is its MD Bhupendra Vishnoi.

The apex body of district central cooperative banks-Uttar Pradesh State Cooperative Bank last week launched the disinfection tunnel with an objective to protect their employees and customers from further spread of coronavirus.

Talking to Indian Cooperative the Bank’s Managing Director Bhupendra Vishnoi said, “We have installed a disinfection tunnel at the main gate of the bank’s headquarters at Lucknow to prevent further spread of coronavirus. Our tunnel is based on sensor technology where a person walks towards the tunnel and the tunnel automatically sprays the sanitizer on a person’s body”, he added.

“Over 300 employees on a daily basis visit the office and I have urged everyone to move through the tunnel before entering the bank. Our bank is the first bank in Uttar Pradesh that has developed this tunnel”, he claimed.

He further added, “The cost of the tunnel is about Rs 90 thousand and it took 2-3 days to set up the tunnel. Besides, we are also planning to install this in all the branches of the bank and will advise DCCBs to install in their respective premises also”, he underlined.

It bears recall that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that people need to learn to live with the new-normal, which means living with a new set of safety measures. Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the news related to installation of ‘Disinfection Tunnel’ in cooperative institutions are pouring in on the desk of Indian Cooperative.

Meanwhile, UP State Cooperative Bank and its all the branches are running except one branch which is in the hotspot area which sealed by the state government.

In order to reach out to their customers, UP State Co-op Bank and DCCBs are providing door to door cash facility to the people through 42 mobile ATM vans. These vans are offering all the services available at normal ATMs.

Earlier, 50 DCCBs and UP State Co-op Bank had jointly contributed Rs 1,30,91,510 towards the Chief Minister Relief fund. The cheque was handed over by State Cooperative Minister Mukut Bihar Verma to CM Yogi Adityanath.
