From Raigad to Mumbai-the journey was worth it. The victims of Pen Cooperative Bank could finally meet the Chief Minister on Wednesday and wheedle out an assurance for justice from him.
Mumbai police, no doubt tried to dissuade the procession from reaching the residence of Chief Minister Prithvi Raj Chavan but a determined public protest had its way finally. Chief Minister called them to Mantralay and assured them of appointing full-fledged administrator in the bank.
Readers may recall that Chairman and others were booked for irregularity in the working of bank with RBI finally closing all its 18 branches. Th Management is accused of Rs 480 crore scam.
Mr Chavan assured that he would take up the case of Pen Bank with RBI through Union Finance Ministry. He also talked of monitoring the conduct of the bank on monthly basis.
Effort to get the deposits from Pen Cooperative bank would also be made by providing legal assistance to victims, CM added.
It indeed was a victory of cooperative movement in which people forced the authority through democratic means to hear their complaints.
