Being a unique organization, the role of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development [NABARD] is pivotal for bringing about rural prosperity in India, said Ajay Singh Kilak, Minister for Cooperation & Gaupalan,the Govt. of Rajasthan while speaking in the function organized by the Rajasthan division of Nabard in connection with the 36th foundation day of the bank.
NABARD has completed 35 glorious years of its dedicated services and meaningful contribution to the nation.
The minister lauded the efforts of NABARD in the digitization of SHG accounts under the E-SHAKTI Project of NABARD in Bikaner and Jhalawar districts of Rajasthan and urged the bank to expand the coverage. He also called upon NABARD to lend its support to development of the cooperative sector in the state.
The water campaign undertaken by NABARD in 6550 villages in 27 districts of Rajasthan has been widely appreciated as it is expected to go a long way in supplementing the State Government efforts under its flagship programme of Mukhya Mantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyaan (MJSA), said the minister.
During 2016-17, NABARD in Rajasthan has provided Rs 9255.88 crore as crop loan refinance, Rs. 3396.85 crore for various farm & non-farm investment purposes, Rs 1869.59 crore as loan to the State Government for the rural infrastructure & warehouse development and Rs. 547 crore as direct finance under new business initiatives, a source was quoted claiming.
A source added agriculture credit in Rajasthan has shown a steep growth mainly because of the credit potential indicated by NABARD and its constant advocacy in various forums.
On this occasion, the Banks which excelled in extending credit facilities to Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) in Rajasthan along with various NGOs, Farmers’ Clubs and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) were felicitated.
Several important persons including top Rajasthan govt officials and Nabard functionaries attended the function.
