The Sahakar Panel led by the Maharashtra leader of Opposition in the legislative Council Pravin Darekar has succeeded in winning all the 21 seats of the board members of Mumbai District Cooperative Bank. The election for four seats was held on Sunday but the result was announced on Monday.

It bears recall that Mumbai DCCB consists of 21 seats out of which 17 directors were elected unopposed earlier and the elections were held for four seats for which eight candidates were in the race.

The candidates who won the elections for four seats included Jayashree Tai Panchal, Vitthalrao Bhosale, Purushottam Dalvi, and Anil Gajre.

Talking to media persons, Praveen Dareker said, “I am very thankful to the voters who reposed faith in me. I, along with the board members, pledged to take the bank to newer heights and strengthen the co-operative movement on a large scale in the coming days”.

“Though the election of the bank was to be held uncontested, due to the stubbornness of some people, the elections had to be held for 4 seats”, he added.

Buoyed up with the victory, Darkar lost no time in sharing the news through social media. He wrote in Marathi, ” “Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank election results announced! Candidates from Sahakar Panel won 21 out of 21 seats. Earlier, 17 candidates were elected unopposed. Co-operative panel candidates from the remaining 4 seats were declared victorious today.”

As soon as the results of four seats were announced, the news spread like wildfire. BJP Yuva Morcha Mumbai President Tajinder Singh Tiwana wrote, ” The cooperative panel led by the Leader of Opposition in Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank Election wins by a landslide! Congratulations to all the winning candidates!”.

Maharashtra BJP President Chandrakant Patil also congratulated Darekar for his victory. “In the election of Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank, the Leader of Opposition of the Legislative Council Hon. Pravin Darekar – 21 out of 21 candidates in Pravin Darekar’s Sahakar panel have won. This shows the confidence shown by the activists in the cooperative sector in Mumbai towards the cooperative panel and the BJP. Congratulations!”, Patil wrote on his Facebook wall.

Maharashtra Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also congratulated him.

Earlier, NCP National Spokesperson and Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik objected to the outgoing bank’s Chairman Pravin Darekar contesting from the labour category and raised the issue in legislative council.

The bank is having a total business mix of more than Rs 10,000 crore and earned a net profit to the tune of Rs 8.14 crore in 2020-21 financial year. The bank has a network of 53 branches.
