Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990-batch IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, was appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday.
Currently serving as Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Malhotra will succeed Shaktikanta Das, who has completed a six-year tenure as RBI Governor.
He will assume his new role starting Wednesday, with a term of three years.
Malhotra holds a Computer Science degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and a Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University, US.
His 33-year career spans various sectors, including power, finance and taxation, information technology, and mines. As Revenue Secretary, he managed tax policies for both direct and indirect taxes.
