Kangra Cooperative Bank goes to polls; 17 in fray for 13 seats

The elections of Delhi-based Kangra Cooperative Bank are going on and the final list of candidates left in the fray has been out on Wednesday. The election is slated for 13th February at Ambedkar Bhawan, Rani Jhansi Road, New Delhi.

The bank’s board comprises 15 directors in which one-one seat each for Chairman and Vice-Chairman, 2 for women, and 11 for the directors. Out of 15 seats, the election will be held for 13 seats as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman got elected unopposed.

Laxmi Das has been re-elected unopposed as the Chairman of the bank with his deputy Rajendra Kumar Sharma as Vice-Chairman. Though the official announcement will be made on 13th February.

It is being reported that 33 nominations were filed at the last date of filing the papers and all papers were found valid. But on the day of withdrawal, 14 withdrew their names including Pawan Guleria and Rajendra Thakur who had filed their nomination papers for contesting Chairman and Vice-Chairman elections respectively.

For the two reserved seats of women, three candidates are in the fray whereas for 11 seats of the Board of directors 14 candidates are in the race.

“Our Himachal Pradesh Social Group panel will make a clean sweep in the elections of the bank. The majority of votes will be cast in favour of us because the members have a lot of faith in us”, said Das who has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of the bank.

“Meanwhile, to woo the voters in favour of our panel, we are going to launch an election campaign across Delhi. The eligible voters are over 44 thousand and more than 10k members will come to cast their votes”, Das who is also on the board of Nafcub informed Indian Cooperative.com.

Amit Kumar Pamasi has been appointed as the returning office to oversee the election process.

It is worth mentioning that the Kangra Cooperative Bank is the largest Urban Cooperative of Delhi-NCR. The total business mix of the bank is more than Rs 1800 crore and earned a gross profit of Rs 9.09 crore in 2020-21 financial year. The bank has 12 branches across Delhi.
