Mr Ali was categorical in saying that Urban Cooperative banks go a long way in solving the problems of unbankable segment of the population. Boasting achievements of his Janta Sahkari Bank Haji Chaudharay Abbas Ali said it has earned a net profit of Rs one crore in the current fiscal and aims to double it next year.
There has been an all round growth in my tenure in terms of increase in memberships, share capital or deposits. The Bank has achieved a turn-over of Rs 100 crore, he said with a sense of satisfaction. He is seeking re-election on the strength of his good works.
However, Abbas was wary of RBI’s restriction active on different aspects of the UCB and wanted apex bank to be more understanding in realizing the limitations under which UCBs have to operate. He, however thanked the General Manager of RBI Rachana Dixit for appreciating the works of Janata Cooperative Bank more than once.
Though himself a congressman Abbas puts high hopes from Modi government. He believes that the new govt would certainly strengthen the cooperative movement in the country. He expected the new dispensation to help do away with the limit of Rs 3 lakh that a UCB can loan out.
We are very careful and follow the norms of RBI. We never sanction loan to Directors or their relatives, Abbas said to Indian Cooperative. The bank has five branches in Delhi and this year it proposes to open a few more branches.
