In the elections for the six remaining seats of the marketing cooperative-Gujcomasol, five seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and one seat was won by Congress.
The elections were held on Sunday in Ahmedabad and the results were announced soon after the voting. Readers would recall that the board consists of 32 elected directors out of which 26 directors were earlier elected unopposed and the elections were held for the remaining seats.
With the elections on the remaining six seats, 31 directors are associated with BJP and a candidate Nanubhai Vaghani who fought the election from Bhavnagar Constituency from Congress has become the hero of the show as the BJP candidate failed to stop him from winning the seat. Vaghani got 39 votes whereas his BJP rival received 24 votes.
Kheda, Bhavnagar, Patan, Navsari, Chhota Udaipur, and Jamnagar constituencies went for a poll on Sunday. From Patan, BJP local senior leader Snehlal Patel defeated his rival Rajubhai Kataria by narrow margins.
Sources added that Dileepbhai Sanghani will again be elected as the Chairman of Gujcomasol. Though the dates of elections for Chairman and Vice-Chairman have not yet been announced, it will be done soon after the elections of the board.
Those declared victorious uncontested include veterans like Dileepbhai Sanghani from Amreli, Rajkot District Cooperative Bank Chairman Jayesh Radadiya, Kribhco Director Maganbhai from Morbi, GCMMF former Vice-Chairman Jetha Bharwad, Sabarkantha DCCB Chairman Mahesh Bhai, Gujcomasol’s outgoing Vice-Chairman Govindbhai Parmar from Gir- Somnath, and others.
JB Desai was appointed as the returning officer for overseeing the election process.
Readers would recall that the candidates filed their nominations between 25th May to 1st June and the list after scrutiny was displayed on 3rd June. The candidates were allowed to withdraw their names between 4th June to 8th June 2022.
It bears recall that recently Union Home and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a new building of Gujcomasol at GIDC in Gandhinagar. The newly constructed head office of Gujcomasol spread over a big area is becoming a farmers’ hub.
