Jyotindra Mehta and Dolarrai Kotecha have been re-elected unopposed as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the apex body of Gujarat Urban Cooperative Banks GUCBF in the election held on Thursday in its headquarters at Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The election of GUCBF was held on September in 2015 for five years but according to the bye-laws of federation and Gujarat State Cooperative Act, Chairman and Vice-Chairman have to get elected midway- that is after every 2 and half years.
Mehta made it to the top post once again along with his deputy. Jyotindra Mehta is also the president of Sahakar Bharati, an RSS inclined organization. He is also one of the Governing Council members of the apex cooperative body in the country NCUI. He is a nominee from the govt here.
Established in Ahmedabad in 1975 in accordance with the provisions of the Gujarat Co-Operative Society Act, 1961, Gujarat Urban Co–operative Banks Federation (GUCBF) is the apex body of 244 urban co-operative banks in Gujarat. Its objective is to highlight the issues related to the urban cooperative banking sector
One of the board members N.V.Patel who oversaw the election process announced the results of the election.
There were no other nominations for the posts of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, informed J.V.Shah, CEO of federation to this correspondent on the phone soon after the election.
A cooperator of having 40 years field experience Mehta’s rise is remarkable. Starting from Rajkot he came to head almost all the urban co-op bank federations-from district to state to national level. He was also the President of NAFCUB-the national apex body of UCBs in the country before a legal hitch cropped up.
Meanwhile, Mehta’s social media handle Facebook is filled with messages of greetings and congratulations from his supporters and well-wishers.
