Delhi based Kangra Cooperative Bank Chairman Laxmi Dass is busy struggling to retain his job in a tough election which is slated for 29th October. Dass has been the bank’s chair for two consecutive terms.
Indian Cooperative covered his campaign a “Shareholders Meet” at Mayur Vihar with more than 200 eligible voters. Dass has also addressed several election meetings at places in the capital.
The kind of campaign Dass is carrying out across Delhi, seems to be suggestive of a high stakes major election. Cooperators say, this is unusual for the cooperative sector.
There are about 42,000 members associated with the bank who are eligible to vote in the election. Shareholders at Mayur Vihar apprised Dass of their numerous grievances.

Laxmi Dass assured his electors if elected he and his board members would do their best to address all their grievances. The bank has fulfilled all the parameters to get the ‘Scheduled Status’ Dass informed.
“When B.R. Sharma the founder of ‘Himachal Social Group’ took charge, the bank operated from two humble rooms and 15 lakh was the share capital but now the bank has crossed Rs 1,000 crore mark with 10 branches in the Delhi-NCR region, said Dass who is also on the board of NAFCUB.
He further said ”the bank is holding immovable assets worth crores of rupees and we are planning to buy one more building at Rohini soon. The RBI has given us license to open three more branches, he added.
The election is scheduled for 29th Oct to elect 15 board members including Chairman, Vice-Chairman, two women directors and 11 directors.
