Challenges before UCBs: Sah Bharati leaders brainstorm in Udaipur

Udaipur Mahila Samridhi Urban Cooperative Bank in Rajasthan recently organized a meeting where leading Sahakar Bharati leaders held detailed discussions about the issues and challenges confronting urban cooperative banks in the country.

The speakers, among other things, urged RBI to grant licenses to new UCB branches, called for the govt. help in recovering outstanding dues and stressed the importance of trained staff and management, informed Sahakar Bharati, UCB Cell National President Sanjay Birla.

Sahakar Bharati President Ramesh Vaidya, National General Secretary Uday Joshi, Patron Jyotindra Mehta, RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe, Sahakar and about 20 delegates from more than 9 states attended the meeting.

Sanjay Birla further informed that Sahakar Bharati organizes 2-3 such meetings in a year to deliberate on the issues related to Urban Cooperative Banks and the Udaipur meeting was the first in the series in 2019. The next meeting will be held in Shevgaon in Maharashtra in August, he said.

Dwelling on various difficulties faced by UCBs, Birla said state governments across states are often interfering in the recruitment process of Urban Cooperative Banks. State governments have set up the recruitment boards that inordinately delay recruitment of staff. Rajasthan stands out as the worst example of this interference, he said.

RBI Central Board director Satish Marathe shared the details of the meeting on social media and wrote, “Udaipur, Attending all India Mtg of UCB Cell of Sahakar Bharati. Representatives from 9 States are participating in day long Deliberations”, he said.

One of the participants from Karnataka has shared the details of the meeting with Indian Cooperative through WhatsApp. He wrote, “A meeting of All India Urban Bank Cell, Sahakar Bharti was concluded with discussions and resolutions regarding Developments and Challenges before the UCBs”.

Udaipur Mahila Samridhi Urban Cooperative Bank also organized a public meeting to felicitate Jyotindra Mehta for his election as the president of the apex body of Urban Cooperative Banks NAFCUB.
