Jaya C. Suvarna has been re-elected as the Chairman and Rohini J. Salian re-elected unopposed as the Vice-Chairperson of Mumbai based Multi State Scheduled Bank- Bharat Cooperative Bank on Friday. Their names were announced in the meeting held Friday evening.
It bears recall that 14,375 members cast their votes during the polls held on 2nd October. While Jaya C. Suvarna bagged 12,729 votes , Rohini J.Salian was elected unopposed as the vice-chairperson.
A.K. Chavan, Additional Registrar (Cooperative Society) and the Returning officer said to this correspondent “Jaya C. Suvarna has been re-elected as the Chairman of Bharat Cooperative Bank and would be the head of the bank for five years. Miss Rohini J. Salian has been re-elected unopposed as the Vice-Chairperson of the Bank”, he
informed.
Soon after the declaration of his name Jaya C. Suvarna was drowned with garlands which nearly choked him. An emotional Suvarna thanked one and all profusely.
The names of other directors who won the election include Lingappa Amin, Somnath Amin, Jaya Kotian, Premnath Kotian, Purushotham Kotian, Vasudeva Kotian, Damodar Kunder, Narayan Poojari, Gangadhar Poojary,
Jaya C Suvarna took over the bank in the year 1991 when the bank had only 5 branches and now the bank has more than 100 branches. The bank also won several awards in the co-operative and cooperative banking sectors.
It bears recall that there were 1,74,184 people who are eligible to cast their votes during the election but only 14 thousand people exercised their voting rights.
It is learnt that 19 people were in the fray for directors from the general category and voters had to elect only 17 of them. Rohit Suvarna and Satish Bangera were defeated. Rohit Survana was the outgoing director and Satish Bangera contested the election but lost.
Bharat Cooperative Bank has about 101 branches across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat. In the last FY 2017-18 the bank earned a net profit to the tune of Rs 93.38 crore.
