Defeating his rival Brian Furtado with a narrow margin, Ryan Fernandes has been re-elected as the Chairman of Maharashtra-based Bassein Catholic Cooperative Bank.
In the election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman held on Wednesday at the bank’s headquarters at Vasai, Fernandes got 13 votes whereas his rival Furtado received 7 votes.
Besides, Simon Soares has been elected as the Vice-Chairman of the bank. He defeated his rival, Anil Pereira, with one vote. Soares and Pereira got 11 and 10 votes respectively. The bank’s board consists of 21 elected directors and all are eligible to cast their votes.
Soon after the results, Fernandes was greeted by everyone for his victory. He profusely thanked one and all. Congratulating the new team, one of the users wrote on social media, ” Heartiest congratulations Ryan Fernandes for getting elected as Chairman for BCCB. Wishing you and your team the very Best. Please take care of the Bank. God bless”.
DDR Palghar Housare had been appointed as the returning officer to oversee the election process.
Readers would recall that the Janhit panel led by Ryan Fernandes had won the majority of seats in the elections of the board of Bassein Catholic Cooperative Bank and the rest were won by the Ekta Panel, the Parivartan Panel, and few independent candidates.
Recently, the bank received an award from the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah for completing 100 years of its existence, in a function organized at Vigyan Bhawan. The award and shield were received by the acting CEO Sixto A.Fargose and DGM Joseph.
The bank’s gross business stood at Rs 11,960 crore and Net NPA was 1.55 percent as of 31st March 2021. The cooperative bank has 77 ATMs in Maharashtra, which include 13 offsite ATMs.
