An elated brotherhood of Pune based Cosmos bank burst into celebrations after the news of Dr Mukund Abhyankar getting elected to the top post of NAFCUB’s Chairmanship trickled in.
The Cosmos Bank Chairman, Krishnakumar Goyal felicitated newly elected Chairman of NAFCUB Dr. Mukund Abhyankar and present on the occasion were Managing Director – Vickrant Pounkshe & Vice-Chairman – Milind Kale of Cosmos Bank.
Dr Abhyankar is the Chairman Emeritus of Cosmos and had been associated with it for a number of years.
Earlier on Friday, as reported by the Indian Cooperative Dr. Mukund Abhyankar has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of “NAFCUB” (National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies) an apex institute of co-operative banks and co-operative credit societies.
Dr. Abhyankar received the maximum number of 267 out of 391 votes. Mr. Vidyadhar Vaishampayan, Chairman of Thane Janata Sahakari Bank received 245 votes while Mr. Ashok Soundattikar, Chairman of Kallappana Awade Sahakari Bank Ltd. received 205 votes. The election was carried out for the 21 seats of the Board.
After the election for the Board of Directors, the executives of the Board were elected and Dr. Mukund Abhyankar was the unanimous choice as the Chairman. Mr. Vidyadhar Anaskar was elected as the Vice-Chairman.
“NAFCUB” was established in the year 1990 by Mr. P. W. Rege, one of the directors of Saraswat Bank who as a founder member of “NAFCUB”. This is the first time since then that the Chairmanship and Vice-Chairmanship has come to persons from Maharashtra.
“NAFCUB” is acting as apex institution for more than 1600 urban co-operative banks and more than 2000 co-operative credit societies. It has its head-quarters at New Delhi.
Its Board comprises of 21 directors out of which 9 belong to state federation, 7 to co-operative banks, 2 to co-operative credit societies, and 1 to Mahila Bank while 2 are from existing Board.
