Following a spate of complaints, the competition commission of India has begun probing cases of price manipulation by sugar mills including the cooperative sugar mills and various oil marketing companies while bidding for ethanol blending with patrol.
According to the commission sources, notices have already been issued to the 18 erring sugar mills. The notices would soon be sent to the oil marketing companies as well, sources added.
The cases of price manipulation have been reported mainly from Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The probe underway will cover the members of the Indian sugar mills association and the National federation of cooperative sugar factories.
Effort to contact Vinay Kumar MD of NFCSF to seek his reaction on the issue failed.
