In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed that a dedicated chapter on the cooperative sector has been introduced in the Class 6 Social Science textbook of NCERT.

To further strengthen this initiative, the Ministry of Cooperation is in discussions with the Ministry of Education to introduce cooperative courses in educational institutions and expand the inclusion of cooperative-related content in other classes in the upcoming academic sessions.

In a significant step, the “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University Bill, 2025, has been passed in the Lok Sabha, paving the way for the establishment of Tribhuvan Sahkari University.

The proposed university will focus on education, training, capacity building, and research in the cooperative sector. It will offer degree programs, distance learning, e-learning courses, and develop centres of excellence in cooperative studies.

Additionally, the university may establish outlying campuses or affiliate institutes across India and abroad.

Amit Shah emphasized that introducing cooperative courses in educational institutions aims to integrate academic knowledge with practical learning, equipping students with industry-relevant skills and enhancing their employability.

These courses will foster collaboration between academia and industry, offering students opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, and live projects, thereby strengthening India’s cooperative movement.
