The book ‘Sangharsh ki Aapbeeti’, chronicling the inspiring journey of NAFCUB President Laxmi Dass, was unveiled during a grand ceremony on Saturday at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi.
The event was graced by Dr. Karan Singh, a renowned politician and scholar, as the chief guest. Other notable dignitaries included Karnataka Minister H.K. Patil, prominent cooperative leaders from Delhi, and numerous followers of Gandhian ideology. The packed hall bore witness to the admiration and respect for Laxmi Dass.
Written in Hindi, the 316-page autobiography offers a compelling account of the challenges, determination, and accomplishments of Laxmi Dass. It also provides a candid reflection on the social boycott faced by his family for 2.5 years, showcasing his resilience and unwavering spirit in overcoming societal barriers.
Reflecting on his journey, he added, “I have seen many ups and downs in life, but I was fortunate enough to navigate through them. This book is close to the truth, as I have shared the story of my family’s social boycott and my personal struggles. I left education at the age of 16 to enter public life, but I later completed my M.A. in Political Science. You must read the book to understand how I achieved this”, he stated.
Dr. Karan Singh, reminiscing about his association with Laxmi Dass, remarked, “I met Laxmi Dass 40 years ago when he was very young and passionate about his work. I have seen him embody and replicate Gandhi’s values in his life. I congratulate him and urge readers to explore his autobiography—you will surely learn something from it,”he suggested.
Karnataka Minister H.K. Patil shared his thoughts, saying, “I convey my deep sense of gratitude to Laxmi Dass, a true Gandhian with a mild-mannered, polite, and humble personality. His soft voice and demeanor can turn enemies into friends. I have known him for over a decade and have never seen him talk very loudly. This quality sets him apart from others’, he noted.
