Anger is simmering among sugarcane farmers in Gahjam district of Odisha because they have not yet been paid their dues by the govt managed sugar factory Aska cooperative sugar industries for the crushing season that ended already in April.
Nearly Rs 12 crore has to be paid to them by the sugar mill.
According to general secretary of the local sugarcane farmers association, delay in the payment of dues is causing financial problems for the farmers and seriously weakening the bid to encourage sugarcane cultivation in the district.
The inordinate delay in the payment would push the poor farmers on the war path, the general secretary warned.
However, the management of the sugar factory says all dues would be cleared soon as the Odisha state cooperative bank has already sanctioned the required amount. The part payment of dues has been made, claims the management.
