Elections for 29,429 cooperative societies across Maharashtra, which were delayed due to the state Assembly elections, are now scheduled to take place in the new year. The Cooperative Election Authority plans to announce the election schedule in the first week of January, once the voter lists have been finalized.
Societies have been instructed to submit updated voter lists by December 31, and the election schedules for those that comply will be released shortly after.
Originally planned for October 1, the elections were postponed due to the ongoing Assembly elections, as many officials from the cooperative department were assigned election duties. Elections for 7,109 cooperative societies have already been completed, including those with 250 or fewer members and those that were mandated by court orders.
Only the appointment of presidents and vice-presidents remains to be finalized, with the authority now gathering information on these appointments. Once the updated voter lists are submitted by December 31, the election schedules for the remaining societies will be promptly announced.
Anil Kawade, Commissioner of the Cooperative Election Authority, explained that the elections were delayed due to the Assembly elections, but with that process now over, the focus will shift to completing the cooperative society elections. The announcement of the election schedule will follow once the necessary orders are issued by the state government.
