National Cooperative Housing Federation of India (NCHF) is a national level organization leading cooperative housing movement in the country. The NCHF, a promotional apex organization for organized development of housing cooperatives, is promoting, developing, guiding and coordinating the cooperative housing movement across the country.
Across the country, there are 92,000 housing cooperatives functioning at the grass-root level with a membership base of over 65 lakhs. These cooperatives have constructed/financed about 24 lakh housing units in various parts of the country. Out of which, according to NCHF Managing Director Mr M L Khurana, approximately 75% of the dwelling units have gone to lower income groups and economically weaker sections of the society.
Twenty-Six apex Cooperative Housing Federations operating at state level are members of NCHF. Mr Khurana, the MD says that these Apex Housing Federations have advanced loans of over Rs.10,700 crore to housing cooperatives as well as individual members for construction/financing of dwelling units up to the end of March, 2009. An impressive feat indeed!
