Cooperative Department inspectors from across Punjab protested at the District Administrative Complex, alleging that Dasuya-based Assistant Registrar Yudhveer Singh was falsely implicated in a case by the Vigilance Bureau, media reports say.
Protesters chanted slogans and burned an effigy of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Sukhjit Singh, state president of the Cooperative Employees Union, and Ankur Sharma, president of the Punjab State Cooperative Inspectors Association, claimed that Singh was wrongfully targeted in a case involving five employees.
They argued that Singh, who had recommended loans to farmers as part of his duties, was being unfairly harassed. In support, all Cooperative Department officials will participate in a two-day pen-down strike, which is expected to significantly disrupt services for farmers across Punjab.
