Many co-operators, led by Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, won the Lok Sabha elections with a huge margin, results for which were announced late Tuesday evening. Among the winners were SP’s Aditya Yadav, Rajeev Bhardwaj from BJP, and Mukesh Dalal, who was an early winner.
Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah contested from Gandhinagar and won with a significant margin. Rajeev Bhardwaj, who ran on a BJP ticket from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, received 6,32,793 votes, whereas his rival Anand Sharma from the Congress Party received 3,80,898 votes. I
FFCO former Director Aditya Yadav, who contested the election on a Samajwadi Party ticket from Badaun (Uttar Pradesh), garnered 5,01,855 votes, while his close rival Durvijay Shakya of BJP received 4,66,864 votes.
Yadav contested the election for the first time from this seat, as his father, Shivpal Singh Yadav, vacated it for him. Surat People’s Cooperative Bank’s former Chairman Mukesh Dalal was an early winner who won unopposed on a BJP ticket after the nomination papers of his main rival, the Congress-backed candidate, were rejected. The remaining candidates bowed out of the race.
Candidates from a cooperative background who lost the election included Godavari Urban Multistate Credit Cooperative Society Chairperson Rajashri Hemant Patil, Gujarat Kheti Bank’s Director Vijay Thummar’s daughter Jenny Thummar, Banas Bank’s Hitesh Chaudhari’s wife Rekhaben Chaudhari, and Karnataka cooperator Annasaheb Jolle.
Rajashri Hemant Patil, who contested the election from Yavatmal-Washim (Maharashtra) on a Shiv Sena ticket, was defeated by Sanjay Deshmukh of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray). She lost by 94,473 votes.
Similarly, Rekhaben Chaudhari, who ran on a BJP ticket from Banaskantha (Gujarat), was defeated by the Congress candidate Geniben Thakor by a narrow margin of around 30,000 votes. Jenny Thummar contested the election from the Amreli constituency on a Congress ticket but lost. She received 2,59,804 votes, while her rival from the BJP, Bharat Sutariya, received 5,80,872 votes.
Prominent cooperator from Karnataka, Annasaheb Jolle of BJP, lost the election by a margin of 90,000 votes to his rival Priyanka Jarkiholi of Congress. It bears recalling that Jolle also contested the recently concluded election for IFFCO director but did not win.
Congratulating the winners from the co-operative sector, NCUI President Dileep Sanghani, who himself had been a Member of Parliament for many terms, said the citizens of India have given a clear verdict by believing in democracy. Taking a dig at the opposition, he said, “I would like to ask the Congress party and the opposition leaders who do not believe in democracy, do you have any doubts about EVMs now? Please clarify!”
The final count for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections has concluded, with the BJP emerging victorious in 240 out of 543 seats, while the Congress secured 99 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to begin his third term as PM.
