The voters are all set to support their respective candidates in the election of Nafed, to be held today at the NCUI headquarters. The election would be held for six seats of directors on the board of Nafed, for which 556 people are eligible to cast their votes.
There are 27 candidates in all fighting for six seats for the Nafed board across Southern, Central, Eastern, Northern and Western zones.
The major fight can be seen in Rajasthan in the Northern Zone, where eight candidates are in the fray including IFFCO former Director MangiLal Danga. The other candidates are also trying their best to woo the voters.
There is one more seat from Northern Zone, where four candidates including two outgoing directors Jagjit Sangwan and R.S.Joon are trying their luck. Meanwhile, sources said, Sangwan has filed the petition in the Delhi High Court for stopping Nafed’ s elections. However, the Indian Cooperative is clueless about the grounds of the petition.
The Eastern Zone hogged the media headlines because Vishal Singh who already has been nominated as the director on the Nafed board on behalf of NCCF filed his nomination papers against Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Kumar Singh. Bihar BJP Cooperative Cell Chairman Manoj Kumar Singh is also in the race for this seat.
The Western Zone, sources say, would most likely to be won by BJP man Keda Aher. However, there are two other candidates including Sanjay Holkar and Ms. Sushma Bhoite fighting for the WZ ‘s seat.
From the Central Zone- four candidates have filed their nomination papers but sources said that the known cooperator in Delhi cooperative circles Ajay Rai could secure a berth defeating his rivals. Bhanwar Singh Shekhwat, Lokender Dandotiya and Raghuvir Singh Raghuvanshi are also in the race for this seat.
It bears recalling that Shekhawat wanted to withdraw his nomination papers and sent them through mail but these were not accepted. However, his loyalists say Shekhawat is not active in the election.
From Southern Zone- four candidates like Chanabasanagouda G Patil, Patangay Rao, Sanjay Patil and Siddappa S. Hoti are in the race for this seat. Hoti is expected to win Mohanbhai Kundariya is said be backing him.
It bears recalling that 15 candidates are slated to be announced elected unopposed in the 21 Board seats. Winners include the outgoing Chairman Bijender Singh, Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Mohan Kundariya, NCCF Chairman Vishal Singh, Ashok Thakur Government Nominee, Sekhar Geddam from AP State Co-op Mktg Fed, Deepak Soni from Chhattisgarh Fed, Jethabhai Bharwad from Gujarat Fed, J Ganesan from Haryana Fed, Guranatha Reddy from Karnataka Fed, Alok Kumar Singh from MP Fed, Tarlok Singh from Punjab Fed, Sudhansh Pant from Rajasthan Fed, Mara Ganga Reddy from Telangana Fed, and Rakesh Gupta from UP Co-op Fed.
The counting of votes and declaration of results will be announced today itself. The meeting of the newly elected Board of Directors of NAFED will begin at 10:00 am on 22nd May 2024 to elect office-bearers at the NCUI’s meeting hall.
