Former Chairman of Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Harsh Mahajan emerged victorious in the Rajya Sabha election on Tuesday.
He was the BJP candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls from Himachal Pradesh. Both the BJP and Congress candidate Abhishek Singhvi received 34 votes each.
The BJP candidate won with a draw of lots. The lone seat for the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh, for which voting began at 9 AM.
Sources said, nearly 8 MLAs of the congress cross-voted for the BJP in the Rajya Sabha polls.
Mahajan became the Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative bank in 2013 for a period of five years. He was originally a congress leader but before the last assembly elections, he joined the BJP.
