The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Rohit Pawar, grandnephew of party supremo Sharad Pawar, in relation to the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam. Set to appear before ED officials in south Mumbai on January 24, Rohit faces questioning over his company, Baramati Agro, allegedly linked to the MSCB scam.
Earlier raids targeted Baramati Agro and other premises involved in the scam. The investigation focuses on the suspected collusion between Baramati Agro and Hitech in manipulating the auction process for the cooperative sugar factory Kannad Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana.
The MSCB scam involves irregular loans, turning into NPAs, and subsequent undervalued sales to the accused’s kin. Previous chargesheets implicated key figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and other political and business entities.
