The central government has recently released thousands of tonnes of onion from the buffer stock to stabilize retail prices of the kitchen essential , media reports say.
NCCF and NAFED have been asked to sell buffer onions in wholesale and retail markets.
Both cooperative bodies are also expected to procure additional onion from farmers to increase the buffer stock quantities from the current 3 lakh tonne to 5 lakh tonne this year.
