In its 212th meeting of the Governing Council held at its headquarters on Monday, the apex body of cooperatives-NCUI decided to focus on co-ops’ role in making India a $5 trillion economy, among others.
Presided over by its Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani, the GC transacted several businesses including a discussion on the preparations of 70th All India Cooperative Week Celebrations. Discussions were held about transferring the remaining balance in the education fund to the account recently opened by the Central Government with the State Bank of India.
Talking to the Indian Cooperative, one of the GC members said that following the new MSCS Act, the future education fund will go to govt but the GC decided to seek clarity from the Ministry on the fund which has accumulated before the Act came into existence. The total Cooperative Education Fund as of 31st March 2023 stood at Rs 257.36 crore.
The discussions were also held on fixing the date, time and venue of the Annual General Body Meeting of NCUI for the year 2022-23. It was decided to hold the AGM on 21st September 2023 at the NCUI auditorium.
Besides, the GC also discussed initiating the award for the Cooperative Societies on the basis of good performance in the near future.
The governing council also approved the nomenclature of 70th All India Cooperative Week Celebrations, which is celebrated every year from 14th November to 20th November with an objective of highlighting the achievements of the cooperative movement. The theme of AICW would be “Role of Cooperative in $5 trillion Economy and SGDs”.
The GC members also discussed the issue related to the payment of outstanding dues of common service charges by NCCT. It relates to electricity, fire-fighting, gardening etc. NCCT occupies over 8000 square feet of the real estate. NCCT is not paying the for the last several years and it has accumulated to more than Rs 1 crore as on July 2023”, a GC member said.
GC members also decided to give thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah for their participation in the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress.
Sources said NCUI President Sanghani got upset with NCUI officials when Kribhco Chairman Dr Chandra Singh Yadav pointed out that the logo of Kribhco was not shown in the banner of Indian Cooperative Congress despite it being a major contributor. Sanghani wanted officials to be careful in such matters and acknowledge the contributions of fellow cooperatives.
The meeting was attended by the NCUI Vice-Chairman Bijendra Singh, Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, K Sivadasan, G H Amin, Sunil Kumar Singh, Mangal Jit Rai, Vishal Singh, NCUI CE Sudhir Mahajan, Government Nominee Uday Joshi and others.
