The first election of the Agriculture Marketing & Processing Cooperative Federation (AGRIFED) was held recently in Chandigarh, in which Khushalpur was elected as its Chairman while Pradeep Chaudhary elected as his deputy. Chaudhary is the Chairman of Haridwar DCCB and on the Governing Council of NCUI.
AGRIFED is a federation of agri cooperatives working on the lines of Nafed and NCCF. NAFED and NCCF grabbed media headlines on Monday when the govt announced the formation of a national level multistate co-op promoted by the two-NAFED and NCCF, among others.
Soon after the election, talking to the Indian Cooperative Chaudhary said, “the principal objective of the Federation will be to promote the interests of all its members to attain their social and economic betterment through self-help and mutual aid in accordance with the co-operative principles viz. voluntary and open membership, democratic member control, member’s economic participation, autonomy and independence, education, training and information, cooperation among co-operatives and concern for community”.
“Provide business to the members for their promotion from produce to products like flour from grains, biscuits, ready to eat products, oil from oilseeds etc and provide transport facility for their goods and products”, he added.
He further said, “We will work with states/State Governments for the implementation of PM ASHA and PSS scheme and to work in the field of polyhouse, organic and natural farming to get better prices for our members and provide MSP to our members”.
“At present, 31 cooperative societies from the states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand are its members. The society started its business with a paid up share capital of Rs 20 lakh. We will do a lot of processing business among others and trust me in a few months you will see many activities being undertaken by the federation”, he underlined.
In the newly constituted board 13 members have been elected as its directors and two are special invitees.
Agriculture Marketing & Processing Cooperative Federation (AGRIFED) was founded under the leadership of Gurpartap Singh Khushalpur GC member of the apex body of cooperatives-NCUI. The society is registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act.
