Senior IAS officer Gyanesh Kumar has been appointed the new secretary at the newly created Union Ministry of Cooperation. He replaces Devendra Kumar Singh, who has been named National Human Rights Commission secretary-general.
Kumar, a 1988-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, was currently secretary at the ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
His entry into the Amit Shah-led Ministry of Cooperation assumes particular importance given the work on a new Cooperation Policy is in progress. Kumar had earlier worked in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under Amit Shah.
Social media got active as soon as Gyanesh Kumar’s appointment as the new secretary of the ministry of cooperation was announced. One of the first to greet him was NCDC. The social media handle of NCDC wrote, ” NCDC welcomes Shri Gyanesh Kumar, new Secretary Cooperation, GoI. He took over today 2 May 2022″.
Incidentally, NCDC MD Sundeep Nayak is also a 1988 batch IAS officer from J&K cadre.
