The Tripura government has decided to hand over the unutilized tea gardens to new cooperative societies and for this purpose, six tea gardens have been identified, read media reports.
Santosh Saha Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited said that these tea gardens were abandoned by their owners due to incurring losses. The government has decided to take over all such gardens and hand over their management to new cooperative societies to run them.
Saha said, if this program is successfully implemented, it will help around 1,800 employees associated with these tea gardens.
