The Maharashtra government has announced a waiver of loans given to weavers and hand loom workers till March 2010, a decision that may benefit thousands of independent workers as well as weavers engaged in cooperative and private sectors.
Official sources claim the central govt had earlier approved nearly four thousand crore for the purpose covering 2011-12 and 2013.
According to the govt announcement, after 2010 weavers would get loans for 3 years with 3 percent subsidy on them. The announcement has triggered a wave of relief and jubilation among weavers and handloom workers in the state.
