Free Press Journal reports NCP chief Sharad Pawar will meet prime minister Narendra Modi to express his opposition to the amendments to the Banking Regulation Act arguing the ‘Co-operative’ character of co-operative banks be preserved.
Already acting on the matter, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in which NCP is a partner, has formed a committee, headed by co-operation minister and NCP legislator Balasaheb Patil, to make recommendations to further strengthen the district and urban cooperative banks.
NCP sources are quoted saying the NCP supremo will impress on the prime minister the vital importance of keeping the cooperative banking sector intact.
