Sarhad Dairy in Gujarat has announced that it will install a fruit processing plant in the district at the cost of Rs 50 crore with a view to incorporating Kutch farmers into the cooperative dairy network, reports Indian Express.
The farmers in the area grow horticulture crops, like pomegranates, dates, mango, etc. The absence of market linkages and a local value addition chain has badly affected their farming.
Valamji Humbal, chairman of Sarhad Dairy who is also the vice-chairman of GCMMF said the plant would be viable with Amul selling its products. According to Humbal, the plant will transform the lives of farmers in the area.
