In the run-up to National Milk Day on November 26, 50 youngsters on motorbikes started their journey from Varanasi on 15th and reached the beautiful city –Bhopal on Thursday. Their purpose is to meet people and visit places created and inspired by Dr Verghese Kurien, says a press release.
These young bikers are on a 12-day ride spanning a distance of over 2500 Km, to reach their destination in Anand, Gujarat. Starting from the serene ghats of Varanasi on 15th, travelling through the holy Sangam of Prayagraj, the city of Nawabs Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra and Gwalior, the rally reached Bhopal yesterday.
The bikers started their onward journey from Gwalior on 20th. They were flagged off from Katora Tal in the afternoon by Gwalior MLA Praveen Pathak. They travelled 223 kms and retired for the night at Guna starting their journey again in the early hours the following day. After riding for 180 kms approx., the bikers reached Bhopal yesterday evening.
They began their Bhopal stay by visiting the lakes in the city. The bikers drove through the city in the evening, visiting the Birla Mandir, Raj Bhavan Road and Vidhan Bhawan road. They also met the trade partners of Bhopal over dinner. Later, they started their journey towards Vidisha with a pitstop at the famous Sanchi Stupa.
Throughout their journey, the bikers will meet people and visit institutions created and inspired by Dr Verghese Kurien in a style that would attract the Indian youth, ‘#CelebratingDrKurien’ will explore the life and work of the man who turned India from a milk deficient nation into one of the largest producers of milk in the world.
This interesting expedition titled ‘#CelebratingDrKurien’ aims to keep afresh the value of Dr. Kurien’s contributions in the minds of all, especially the youth. The idea is to cherish the legend by hearing stories about him directly from the people who he touched. Visits to the institutions inspired by him are to bring about a sense of deeper appreciation for the spirit of cooperation and the daily availability of milk that we take for granted.
The Grand Finale at Anand, Gujarat on 26th November, 2019, the Dr. Kurien rally will culminate in his karmabhoomi Anand; Dr Kurien’s messengers will be welcomed in all splendor befitting his contributions towards mankind.
In the final lap, they will be visiting Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, the marketing house of the extremely popular brand AMUL, followed by a visit to IRMA and then they will attend the closing ceremony at National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
Various State Milk Marketing Federations who market popular brands like Parag and Sanchi, will also join hands with GCMMF– thus making for a fitting tribute to The Milkman who transformed the dairy industry in India.
In the run-up to Dr. VergheseKurien’s centenary birth anniversary in 2021, the brand Amul plans to augment these celebrations every year, inviting voluntary cooperation from various people and institutions – a fitting tribute to the legend who taught us the value of cooperation.
