Procurement price of sugarcane is getting political overtones with politicians lining up in the support of sugarcane farmers. The record harvest is sure to lead to heartburn as Centre is delaying the raise in export quota inordinately.
Surrounded from all sides, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithriraj Chavan said that effort to find practical solution is the problem was going on. He requested the farmers to maintain law and order meanwhile.
We have already requested Centre to raise the export quota without which raising the
procurement price would be difficult, he said.
Readers can recall that Raju Shetty, Haktanangle Member of Parliament took a procession of sugarcane farmers to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar’s Baramati from Pandharpur.
He is trying to seek Rs 2350 rate per tonne.
