Worried about the country’s food security, NDDB has advised the government to keep the dairy sector out of the purview of negotiations under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), reports Business Line.
Dilip Rath chairman NDDB is quoted saying if the dairy sector is part of RCEP negotiations it will not only harm the interest of marginal milk producers but also enable countries with reduced duties to dump their products on Indian market.
The NDDB chairman added that the dairy sector included in the proposal for FTA especially with countries like New Zealand and Australia will seriously compromise the future of the milk sector in India.
Several leading dairy companies including GCMMF have opposed dairy products being put under the HSN 0401 to 0406 categories under the proposed RCEP.
