Considering public concern over supply of fish laced with toxic chemicals, Kerala’s Matsyafed has persuaded local fishermen to procure fresh fish to be sold via its outlets. Matsyafed has 20 lakh customers who prefer to buy fish from its 35-odd outlets across the state, reports, New Indian Express.
A source is quoted saying Matsyafed has an app through which 30 fishermen welfare cooperative societies and local fishermen supply fish.The day’s catch from the sea is collected from fishermen in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha landing centres.
With an annual turnover of Rs 50 crore and selling close to 3,000 tonnes of fish, Matsyafed is held as pride of fisheries cooperative.
