B S Nakai and Dileepbhai Sanghani were elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively in the IFFCO vote on Friday underscoring the unique existence of both cooperation and competition in the cooperative world.
Pramod Kumar Singh and Prem Chand Munshi proposed the names of Nakai and Sanghani and the entire newly elected board members stood up supporting their names. “Nothing could have been fairer than this. The smooth proceedings were a proof how IFFCO ranks globally number one in Cooperative Monitor Report”, said an eyewitness.
The two leaders-Nakai and Sanghani were covered with flowers as soon as the Returning Officer R D Agrawal announced their names as winners. MD Dr U S Awasthi sitting between the two lost no time in congratulating the two, as did other members in the spacious Board room of IFFCO Sadan located in Delhi.
As sweets were being distributed in the wake of the results, supporters were scrambling to take selfies with the leaders. Supporters of the newly reelected Chairman B S Nakai who were waiting outside the Board room so far patiently barged into the room raising slogans about leaders. It was quite a sight!
Nakai, on his part looked for his newly appointed deputy Sanghani and IFFCO MD to pose for a group photography satisfying his supporters who had probably come from Punjab.
Earlier, the IFFCO Sadan witnessed a two-hour long casting of votes for the five seats. One could see long queues of delegates standing patiently outside the polling booths which were organized in a professional and secure manner. The Indian Cooperative team visited each polling booth and was amazed at the smoothness of the process.
Candidates, their polling agents and no-nonsense election officers guarded each booth where a voter was able to cast vote in total secrecy. Everything was being recorded on CCTVs as large TV screens placed at every vantage point gave one an idea of how things are going on. It was cooperative election with a difference!
