The Second ICA-AP Cooperative Registrars’ Forum on “Creating Enabling Legal Framework and Policies to Promote Sustainable Development of Co-operatives in the 21st Century,” will be held from April 16-19, 2019, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Several cooperators from India are going along with the Central Registrar Abhishekh Lekhi. The name of those going to Vietnam from India include NCUI Chief Executive N Satyanarayan, Nandini Azad, among others. There would, however, be no representation from IFFCO as the cooperative titan is busy electing a new Board.
The Theme for the Forum is: Creating Enabling Legal Framework and Policies to Promote Sustainable Development of Co-operatives in the 21st Century. The Forum will deliberate on trends in the 21st century and its impact on co-operatives; ascertain legislation and policies that affect co-operatives in relations to new and emerging areas; exchange knowledge and best cases in creation of an enabling environment; collaboration between government and the cooperative movement in addressing current socio-economic issues and working towards implementation of the SDGs.
The Forum will be attended by registrars, government representatives, ICA-AP member organizations, international agencies, CSOs and cooperators from Vietnam.
Presentations will be made by eminent speakers on the main themes of the Forum. Some of the topics and their presenters include the name of “Status of Co-operative Development in the 21st Century” by Mr. Chang-Hee Lee, Director, ILO and “Co-operatives and Producer Organizations in the Asia-Pacific” by Ms. Kaore Abe, FAO Regional Office.
Co-operatives and Producer Organizations in the Asia-Pacific would be given by Mr. Hyungsik Eum, Strategy and Statistics Coordinator, ICA-EU Partnership, ICA. Abhilaksh Likhi, Central Registrar from India would speak on “Co-operatives in promotion of sustainable food systems & production”.
Tshering Wangmo of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Bhutan will speak on “Increasing employment and entrepreneurship through co-operatives” and Krishnagopal GV, Executive Director, Access Livelihood Consulting, India will theorize on “Report on new generation cooperatives and ease of doing business”.
Mrs. Meriam binti Mat Nor, Deputy Executive Chairman, Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission, Malaysia is also going to speak on the occasion.
