The election to National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) was held in the NCUI Auditorium last week in Delhi in which Dilip Walse Patil the outgoing Chairman has been re-elected unopposed. But the outgoing Vice-Chairman was not that lucky and has been defeated by Ketan bhai Patel.
While the Chairman belongs to Maharashtra, Ketan Bhai Patel is from Gujarat. Patel has replaced Amit Prabhakar Kore the defeated vice-chairman who hailed from Karnataka.
In a telephonic chat with Indian Cooperative Dr V. K. Dubey as the returning officer informed, “Fifteen directors have been elected to the board of the apex body. Five directors from Maharashtra, two-two each from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat and Karnataka have been elected. The board comprises of about 20 directors but during the scrutiny 4-5 nominations were cancelled and these seats are now vacant”.
The election for one seat of Kisan Sahakari Chini Mills, District-Ballia from Uttar Pradesh was held. Chandrashekhar Singh defeated his rival Inderjeet Singh. Chandrashekhar bagged 8 votes whereas his rival Inderjeet Singh could get only 4 votes out of a total of 13 total votes”, Dubey informed.
Meanwhile, ,talking to this correspondent on the phone soon after the election Dilip Walse Patil, Chairman said, “Yes, I have been re-elected as the Chairman of the apex body of sugar cooperatives and would devote my tenure to strengthening Sugar Cooperatives across India. I would l draw the attention of the government towards the present plight of sugar cooperatives and urge the appropriate to take necessary steps to ease their crisis, he said.
“The govt. should focus on exporting piling stocks of sugar in the country. We are providing our helping hand to sugar co-ops and we always take up their issues with the government,” he added.
It is noteworthy that out of 738 sugar factories, 329 factories belong to the cooperative sector, which is almost 48 per cent of the total.
The whole election process lasted for more than one month and hundreds of delegates were present when the election results announced.
Prakash Kallappa Awade, Chairman of KAIJS Bank and Jawahar Shetkari Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Hupari has also been elected unopposed as the director on the board of apex body of cooperatives.
