A PIL has been filed urging the Hyderabad High Court to ask the AP government to hold elections to the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS), District Cooperative Central Banks (DCCBs) and the AP Cooperative Bank (APCOB) of the state, reports Deccan Chronicle.
In the event of the court agreeing the PIL, the amendment made to the AP Cooperative Societies Act by the state government, extending the term of the elected bodies of the cooperative banks for two years is likely to be rejected.
As per the petition, the action of the state government runs counter to the provisions of the Cooperative Act. The petition also urged that not holding elections to cooperative bodies on time was affecting the welfare of farmers.
