In an initiative that deserves kudos Indore Zila panchayat CEO Neha Meena has asked co-operative department to prepare a proposal for development new cold storages in the district, reports Times of India.
There are about 100 private cold storages and just six cold storages of cooperative societies in the district. Private ones charge exorbitantly from the farmers, say officials.
Out of 120 Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies in the district there are some PACS which have land of their own. The govt plans to approach them to partner in the new initiative.
Initially there is a plan to develop 10 cold storages in Indore, Mhow, Sanwer and Depalpur block. Nabard is being approached to help us figure out the roadmap, said officials.
