Delhi Telugu Academy bestowed on IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi the Life Time Achievement Award for serving Indian farmers. The Award was given by Vice-President of India Shri Venkaiah Naidu at an impressive programme held at Mavalankar Hall, Sunday in Delhi.
Several dignitaries including some very important persons of Andhra Pradesh such as Gajpathi Raju, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Justice N V Raman, judge of the Supreme Court and BJP leader Murlidhar Rao were present on the occasion.
The Award was recognition of the fact that IFFO in general and Awasthi in particular have been doing a great deal to improve the lot of farmers in the country. The award was given on the occasion of the 30th Ugadi celebrations. Vice-President Shri Naidu felicitated Dr Awasthi with mementos, shawls and a turban.
A modest Awasthi later tweeted “Glad to share that today Hon’ble Vice President of India, Sh.Venkaiah Naidu @MVenkaiahNaidu presented Lifetime Achievement Award “For The Farmer, By The Farmer & To The Farmer” to me constituted by Delhi Telugu Academy. Award dedicated to my services for farmers of #India. #DTA”, IFFCO MD wrote.
On the occasion, Shri Naidu also spoke about the vast cultural heritage of India which was mentioned by Awasthi in one of the tweets “Met Hon’ble Vice President Of India, Sh. @MVenkaiahNaidu Ji in an award ceremony by Delhi #Telugu Academy on occasion of #Ugadi celebrations. Great speech on Indian culture & festivals by M VenkaiahNaidu Ji”.
Set up in 1990 Delhi Telugu Academy has become the nerve centre of activities of the people of Andhra and Telanagana. Its clout can be understood from the fact that its events are invariably attended by the top people of the region.
Focusing primarily on preserving and promoting Telugu cultural across the globe, DTA, as it is called, is busy uplifting farmers across backward regions. It has taken up two villages in Vizianagaram district which have been transformed into model villages, claims its website.
Appreciation of IFFCO MD Dr Awasthi is due to his extensive tour of the Telugu speaking region, which he undertook during his Farmers’ Connect Campaign on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of IFCCO. “His efforts to help the farmers are laudable”, said a source from DTA.
