Hundreds of workers of Madhya Pradesh Cooperative Society Federation (MPCSF) in the Ujjain region have recently stopped working and demonstrated half naked against the non-fulfillment of their demands, reports Free Press Journal.
The workers’ strike has affected the functioning of at least 324 Government fair price shops in the area. The strike has also led to about 10000 poor families of the district not getting ration and thousands of farmers being unable to register for the procurement of wheat under the Bhavantar Scheme.
Sources say the striking workers have been demanding district level cadre, pay scale and transfer at district level.
As per cooperative employees’ service rules, each seller would run two fair price shops but the food department had ordered that each seller could run only one fair price shop.
