CAMPCO President S R Satishchandra along with his vice-president S.N.Khandige met Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar last week seeking reduction of GST on Supari. H.S.Manjappa, President of Karnataka Rajya Adike Marata Sahakari Niyamitha (KRAMPS) & Member Khadi & Village Industries Commission also accompanied the Campco team, according to a press release sent by Chocolate cooperative.
The delegation demanded that the GST levied on scented Spuari a whopping 18 per cent should be reduced to the lowest category of 5 per cent. They also submitted a written petition.
“The Hon’ble Chief Minister has assured us to positively look into the matter and protect the interests of the Arecanut fraternity”, claimed President of Campco Satishchandra.
It bears recall that Goa also grows Arecanut and stuff which is mostly preferred in Kanpur-an industrial city in Uttar Pradesh. “We also briefed the Hon’ble Chief Minister on the matter of cess being levied by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and wanted him to intervene in the matter”, said Satishchandra.
We had earlier met Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath in a delegation in Delhi, added Campco President. Yogi had assured the delegation that the state will not ban Arecanut in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi also assured him that he will look into the matter of cess being levied by the state government and arrive at a positive decision.
The Campco team is seized with the twin issues-of ban on arcanut in many states and high GST on Supary. After UP, Goa was their next state.
